To Watch is to Learn
The fall migration of hummingbirds is underway. We are watching them migrate to warmer homes for the winter. Here , in this part of Mississippi, we only get them in the migration. It is a joyous time. The antics of these tiny creatures is both humorous and breathtaking.
But you have to have patience and be still. This is a great lesson for the kids whose natural expressions come in the form of screaming and flailing about. Science is about observation. It is about patience, detail and recording. We found a nice web site to report our sightings to and our observations. Journey North has many educational activities.
The rewards are many, for the child and the parent. We love to see the look on their faces after a humming bird display is performed up close!
