My two oldest just went to the appreciation party at the local library. It is a nice way to get them into the volunteer mind and at the same time a bit of the old 'this is a job' experience. Nothing too much and nothing worrisome. Still have the heebie geebies of my daughter alone...anywhere.

We are proud that they stuck to this. For my son it is the second year volunteering, he really enjoys it. He was asked to join the teen advisory committee and then elected Vice President. Around here the P.S. kids have to volunteer for credit at school. To me, if 'volunteering is some how mandatory then it really isn't volunteering!
Well, the party was boring but their certificates of appreciation will look good in their portfolio.
